KARACHI: In light of India's refusal to visit Pakistan, the International Cricket Council (ICC) called a virtual meeting on Friday to discuss the future of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which is now beset by doubt.

Several options are available, including hosting the event in Pakistan without India, according to credible sources who spoke to Geo News. However, given India's substantial commercial significance, this scenario is regarded as extremely unlikely.

In sports, teams or contingents have occasionally been replaced because they were unable to attend events organized by particular nations, albeit this is uncommon. For example, a number of countries did not participate in the 1980 Moscow Olympics. Nonetheless, the International Olympic Committee and the ICC may make very different decisions.

One idea being considered is a hybrid model in which most matches are hosted by Pakistan and matches featuring India are played in a neutral location, most likely the United Arab Emirates. The hybrid concept has already been rejected by the PCB, according to sources within the Pakistan Cricket Board, but an ICC source argued that it might still be an option. It is anticipated that the PCB will insist that no Pakistani matches, including the group match against India, be held outside of Pakistan if such a concept is put forth.

A tournament without a Pakistan-India encounter is unlikely to succeed, the ICC source emphasized.Other choices include delaying the event until a later time or moving the entire event to a neutral location. Furthermore, there are rumors that the ICC may suggest completely denying Pakistan hosting rights in an effort to pressure Pakistan into changing its position. The PCB is anticipated to fiercely resist this proposal.Prior to Friday's meeting, the PCB has formally requested that the ICC submit comprehensive and feasible recommendations. Additionally, it has restated its demand that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) provide a written response outlining its stance and providing justifications and supporting documentation for India's tour refusal.

The PCB has told the ICC that it cannot accept the hybrid approach, according to another PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi visited Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore late on Wednesday, he gave stakeholders his word that he would fight for what is best for Pakistani cricket. Additionally, he rejected the idea of changing Pakistan's long-standing position against receiving payment for hosting privileges.
